Generative AI marks the strategy of Technology CxOs, who need new technological leadership

TellyArtticle, partner of shikdar a study highlights the urgent need for CxOs to have a new type of technological leadership in the era of Generative AI.

The study, based on a survey of 2,500 CIOs, CTOs, and CDOs (technological CxOs), reveals that 72% of CEOs say that competitive advantage depends on who has the most advanced generative AI.

At the same time, 43% of the technological CxOs surveyed globally and 45% in Spain affirm that their concern about their technological infrastructure it has increased over the past six months due to generative AI, and they are now focusing on optimizing their infrastructure to scale it.

Respondents say they currently spend 29% more on a hybrid cloud than in I.A., 23% in the case of Spain, and, in the next two years, they expect to spend half (50%), 48.3% in the case of Spain, of their budget on hybrid cloud and AI combined.

Technology and finance must go hand in hand.

As CTOs prioritize investments in generative AI-ready infrastructure, two-thirds of CEOs surveyed say close collaboration between CTOs and CTOs is critical to the success of their organization’s financial directors.

However, there is a large gap: only 39% of chief technology officers surveyed globally, 43% in Spain, say they collaborate with the finance department to integrate technology metrics into business cases, and only 35% of CFOs surveyed, 43% in Spain, say they participate from the beginning in IT planning to set strategic expectations.

Among the top-performing technology managers surveyed, that is, the group of respondents with the best results, the study revealed that organizations that connect technology investments with measurable business results report 12% higher revenue growth.

“In an environment where generative AI is transforming business operations, technology leaders must not only modernize their infrastructure but ensure that AI investments are aligned with strategic objectives”, says Ana Gobernado, Managing Partner of IBM Consulting Spain, Portugal, Greece, and Israel.

“In this scenario, a collaboration between technology and financial directors is essential to achieve a greater impact on growth and competitiveness”, he adds.

Responsible AI is a priority for Technology Directors

For the majority (80%) of CEOs surveyed, transparency in their organization’s use of next-generation technologies, such as generative AI, is essential to promoting trust.

However, most CTOs recognize that their organizations are falling behind when it comes to applying basic responsible AI practices on a large scale:

  • Only half (50%) of respondents say they are meeting key responsible AI capabilities explainability, in Spain the figure is 53%. Even fewer claim to be fulfilling the capabilities of privacy (46%), 52% in Spain, transparency (45%), 44% in Spain, and equity (37%), 25% in Spain.
  • 41% of Technology managers surveyed globally reported an increase in their concern about regulation and compliance as a barrier to generative AI in the last six months, a figure that decreased to 35% in Spain.
  • However, the majority (70% globally and 65% in Spain) of the technological CxOs surveyed see regulatory change as an opportunity, compared to only 50% of CEOs.

Talent strategy in the era of generative AI

63% of CxOs agree that their competitiveness will depend on their ability to attract, develop, and retain the best talent.

However, 58% say they have difficulties filling key technological positions, 57% in the case of Spain, and only 27% identify talent as one of their main priorities.

  • In the next 3 years, technology executives foresee an increase in the skills shortage in key areas, such as the cloud (+36% globally, 16% in Spain), AI (+29%, 24% in our country), security (+25% globally and 28% in Spain) and privacy (+39% globally and 37% in Spain).
  • 40% of those surveyed report an increase in their concern in the last six months, a figure that in Spain drops to 36%.
  • More than half (54% globally, 52% in Spain) of the technological CxOs surveyed blame the financial pressures to hinder your ability to invest in technological talent.
